'The Vampire Diaries' Video: Ghosts Return to Mystic Falls

This week's episode of The Vampire Diaries is called "Ghost World," and they mean it. Not only is Jeremy dealing with his feelings for his ghost ex-girlfriend Anna, but Damon also got a surprise visit from the very dead Mason Lockwood.

In this clip, we see Bonnie and Caroline chatting about Jeremy and the ghosts, only to have Damon do a quick drive-by to let them know all about the crazy night he had with Mason. It went about as well as the last time Damon and Mason were in a room together, only with the roles reversed.

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains spoilers about this episode of The Vampire Diaries. Don't read if you want to be surprised.

And if you want ghosts, don't worry, because The Vampire Diaries is bringing back more than just Mason and Anna. The episode takes place on Illumination Night, and you can also expect return appearances by several dead characters, including Stefan's old pal Lexi, Anna's mom Pearl, Pearl's vampire associate Frederick (who was locked in the Tomb) and Bonnie's grandmother. It's an all-you-can-eat buffet of Mystic Falls ghosts.

'The Vampire Diaries' Recap: Welcome Back to the Living

It's back-to-school day on The Vampire Diaries, but classes aren't the only things making a return. Several dead characters come back in various forms, some more confusing and crazy than others.

If you're keeping track of the Vampire Diaries timeline at home, the new school years takes place exactly one year after the series premiere when Elena met Stefan. So the first two seasons and the first six episodes of season 3 all covered just a single year. At first I thought this made no sense, but it might actually work, as long as you believe the Lockwoods had their season 2 Masquerade Ball in March.

The Return of Ripper

Now that Stefan has turned off his emotions, Elena is waking up at 5:15am to train with her Watcher. Oh wait, that's a different show, but Alaric is definitely stepping up his Giles-like role, training her to fight.

Elena hatches a plan to locked Stefan away until they can fix him, and it involves her getting drunk at the back-to-school bonfire to lull Stefan into a false sense of security so Alaric can shoot him. I'm generally in favor of any plan that involves getting drunk.

The Return of Vicki

Unfortunately for Elena, Vicki convinces Matt to help her come back with the help of a spell courtesy of a witch on the other side (most likely the Original Witch). It works and Vicki becomes corporeal, only Matt is shocked to learn that it's part of a deal she made to help prevent Klaus from making hybrids, a plan that involves killing Elena.

Ghost Vicki goes to the bonfire where Elena has successfully captured Stefan, only she sets the car on fire and traps Elena and Stefan inside. Luckily Elena is able to escape before getting blown up, but the same can't be said for Alaric's car, which is destroyed. Then Bonnie casts a counter-spell to send Vicki back to the other side.

The Return of D-Bag Tyler

Remember how Tyler was a total jerk before becoming a werewolf and connecting with Caroline? Now that he's a hybrid, the jerk is back because Tyler is loyal to Klaus because he sired him. Tyler briefly fights it off long enough to have sex with Caroline again, but when she leaves Rebekah shows up with some dinner. That's right, Rebekah has her sights set on Tyler, and it looks like she's going to get him.

The Return of Mikael

Katherine spends the episode trying to coax Mikael out of his tomb, and she eventually succeeds. The only problem is that the vampire who hunts vampires doesn't feed on the living, so instead of bites Katherine. It doesn't look good for her.

The Return of Anna

Throughout the episode Bonnie is insanely jealous of Jeremy's dead ex-girlfriend, and it turns out she has a good reason. At the end of the day, even when Jeremy is on the phone with Bonnie, he's thinking of Anna and she appears in his bedroom. Then the two touch, because now she's corporeal. It's going to really suck if Bonnie's boyfriend cheats on her with a ghost.

The Return of Mason

In the unbelievably shocking final scene, Damon is alone in the Salvatore mansion recuperating from being stabbed with a branch by Rebekah. He hears a disturbance and assumes it's Stefan, but then he gets knocked down and sees ... Mason Lockwood! Yes, the one whose heart Damon ripped out last season. WHAT?!?

Next week on The Vampire Diaries: Hopefully we'll find out how on Earth Mason is back, because that's seriously the most confusing twist ever.

'The Vampire Diaries' Video: Tyler's Cocky New Attitude

After a rough summer of The Vampire Diaries that came to a big finish last week, the school year is finally beginning. Matt killed himself and now sees Ghost Vicki, Klaus is MIA after the news that Mikael the vampire-hunting vampire is after him and Tyler is the first successful member of Klaus' hybrid army.

In this week's episode, "Smells Like Teen Spirit," school begins and Tyler has a new lease on life. It makes me feel incredibly old that the title of this episode comes from a song released before almost all of the show's characters were even born.

Clearly something is wrong with Tyler because he's way too happy to be a hybrid and doesn't seem like his usual, sullen self. The news that he's spending time with Rebekah could also lead to a dangerous potential love triangle.

Also, I'm excited to see that the tradition of Mystic Falls hosting a new special event every single day of the calendar year is continuing with the Spirit Squad Back-to-School Bonfire. It must be nice to live in a town where there's always some big event to attend.

Will bad things happen at the bonfire? Since bad things happen at every Mystic Falls event, it's safe to assume that the bonfire won't go off as expected.

Vampire Diaries Spoilers – Spoiler Chat with E!Online – Who’s Coming Back?

E!Online‘s Kristin Dos Santos has some scoop for us in regards to who might be returing in the 7th epiosde this season, “Ghost World”. But first, when can we expect “Nice Stefan” back?

Sully716: Does the nice Stefan ever come back on Vampire Diaries?
From what Paul Wesley tells us, we don’t think Nice Stefan is making a full return anytime soon, but we may catch glimpses of him. “The thing about Stefan is that the whole struggle the audience is going to watch, and that I hope to convey, is that there are little glimpses. When I say a little glimpse, I mean like a look, like maybe he is still there, but you have no idea. Even I don’t know if he’s really in there.”
Randall: Any scoop on Vampire Diaries? I know Mason is returning and this excites me.
It excites us, too—in all the right places. (What? We meant our brains, naturally.) We’re hearing from sources that Kelly Hu (Pearl), Jasmine Guy (Sheila aka Grams) and Arielle Kebbel (Lexi) also will be seen again on TVD, right around the seventh episode. Ghost party, y’all! Get pumped!

'The Vampire Diaries' Recap: Dying is a Good Thing

This week's huge episode of The Vampire Diaries takes place on Senior Prank Night, but it's more like Opposite Day. Tyler and Matt both die, but it's actually the best thing that could've happened to either one of them. Klaus does the opposite of what he's told and unlocks the secret to making hybrids. And the Salvatore brothers are back under one roof, only they're in opposite roles.

It all begins at the school when Klaus shows up to kidnap Elena and everyone she loves in hopes of figuring out why he can't create hybrids. As incentive for Bonnie to figure it out, Klaus kills Tyler, turning him into a hybrid that will die if she can't solve the problem.

Klaus also wants Stefan to stop pretending, so he compels him to kill Elena after 20 minutes. But Stefan's love is strong, so Klaus steps up his game by forcing him to turn off his humanity like a light switch. He does it and just like that, the old Stefan is dead and there's a new, emotionless, evil Stefan in his place.

Matt's Dumb Idea

Since Bonnie can't reach Jeremy (who's been kidnapped by Katherine), Matt hatches a plan of his own. He drowns himself in the school pool so he can talk to Vicki in hopes that Bonnie and her amazing CPR skills will bring him back to life. But as I said, killing himself is the best thing he's ever done because he comes back with a message and the ability to see Vicki. He didn't come back with magic, so I'm guessing that there's more to Vicki's reappearance.

How to Make a Hybrid

The message from Vicki (who apparently talked to the Original Witch in the afterlife) is that the doppelganger must die for the transformation to work. Klaus, however, knows that the Original Witch hates him and he does the opposite. He figures out that drinking the doppelganger's blood is the only way to successfully transform someone into a hybrid, which he tests out on Tyler. So now Tyler is a fully-formed hybrid and he seems to be feeling very good about it.

Klaus decides to drain as much blood from Elena as he can without killing her to make his hybrid army, but that plan gets complicated when Damon shows up and reveals that he found Michael, the only person who can scare Klaus. It's actually a semi-bluff, but it works and Klaus leaves town for now. But he leaves Stefan behind to watch over Elena and make sure she's safe. So now Damon and Stefan are together again, only this time Damon is the one who promises to always save Elena and Stefan is the scary, emotionless killer. See, I told you it was Opposite Day.

The Truth About Michael

Throughout the episode, Katherine and Damon are on the road with a kidnapped Jeremy because Pearl knew how to kill Klaus for good, and she only told Anna. After some persuasion, Anna tells Jeremy that they need to wake up Michael, a vampire who also hunts vampires and who can kill Klaus. His identity is still a mystery, but I'll eat my left shoe if Michael isn't the father of the Originals.

In the most twisted pairing of all-time, Katherine and Jeremy work together to find Michael's tomb (where he was placed by a witch in the early 1900s) and bring him back. That's not going to be good for anyone. On the bright side, I kind of love seeing Jeremy and Katherine work together.

Next week on The Vampire Diaries: Stefan is channeling his inner Demon and chowing down on as many humans as he can find.

'The Vampire Diaries' Preview: A Game-Changing Episode

The Vampire Diaries is no stranger to big twists, and this week it looks like the changes might be bigger than ever. In this new video, executive producer Julie Plec describes some of the big events that will shake the residents of Mystic Falls forever.

It all takes place on Senior Prank Night as Elena, Bonnie, Caroline, Matt and Tyler hang out at the school to cause a little mischievous. But when Klaus shows up, the mischief gets real.

So what big changes are in store?

-Klaus finds Elena, still alive, and decides to make her suffer for her deception. The promise of seeing Klaus "kick ass and take names" sounds great.

-Caroline and Tyler's relationship is going to change forever. Will one of them die? Will Caroline get pregnant? Will Tyler be turned into a hybrid? It could be any of the above.

-Matt "takes drastic steps" to speak to Vicki. Is he going to kill himself in hopes of crossing over and maybe coming back like Jeremy did?

-Bonnie and Jeremy's relationship will also change forever. Is one of them going to die? Will they break up after Anna (or Vicki) successfully comes back as promised?

Basically, Plec is promising a huge episode and it sounds like every single character might die or get turned into something supernatural or worse. Whatever happens, I'm 100 percent on board with an episode that promises to be as shocking and game-changing as any episode that's come before.

After Tomorrow Night’s “The Reckoning”, Stefan Will Be 100% Baddie

TV Line has some spoilery dish to share about this Thursday’s all new episode of The VampireDiaries, “The Reckoning”. Stefan going darker than ever and a sneak peek into next week’s episode with Executive Producer Julie Plec.
Klaus compels Stefan tocompletely shut off his emotions, thus paving the way for him to become an official baddie. That’s one of, like, four big twists in the episode, so fasten your seatbelts. Look for Matt’s issues with the supernatural world to come to a head in Episode 5, per exec producer Julie Plec. “It’s set the weekend before senior year begins and it’s senior prank night,” she previews. “And of course, things go horribly wrong. For Matt, specifically, it’s kind of bittersweet because there’s a sense of the life he’s lost over the two seasons of our show and it’s really hurting him. We get to explore that in a beautiful and tragic way.” Plec also confirms that “Matt’s gotta get laid this year. He just needs that. He needs love.”

Damon and Katherine smooch next episode !!

Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Katherine (Nina Dobrev) do kiss in Thursday’s episode of The Vampire Diaries. While we won’t spoil Damon’s reaction to the smooch, we will say he won’t be gone from Mystic Falls for very long.

PHOTO PREVIEW: 'The Vampire Diaries's' "Reckoning"

"For Matt, specifically, it's kind of bittersweet because just the beginning of last year, really, you know, he was a football player, he had Elena, just coming out of that relationship; he and his friends were good; he had his sister. There's a sense of life that he's lost over the two seasons of our show, and it's really hurting him, and we really get to explore that in a really beautiful and tragic way."
Remember when The Vampire Diaries executive producerJulie Plec teased that during a third season preview a few weeks ago? Well, it's about to come to a head this week in"The Reckoning!"
It's a senior prank night to die for-- literally. Despite all that has happened of late in Mystic Falls, Caroline (Candice Accola) is determined to see that Elena (Nina Dobrev), Bonnie (Kat Graham), Matt (Zach Roerig) and Tyler (Michael Trevino) all enjoy a traditional Senior Prank Night before the school year begins at Mystic Falls High School. However, when uninvited guests show up, it doesn’t take long for the evening to take a deadly turn.
Oh yes, Bonnie may have officially returned last week, but this is the week when the Bonnie we know and love (i.e. magical Bonnie) is truly back! Check out a promotional photo preview in the slideshow to the left!
Meanwhile elsewhere in the episode (not pictured), Damon (Ian Somerhalder) convinces Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) that he can use his new connection to the other side to help find a way to defeat Klaus (Joseph Morgan), who has finally deepened his hold on Stefan (Paul Wesley).
                                             here are the photo preview

'The Vampire Diaries' Video: What's in Katherine's Trunk?

There's a reckoning coming to Mystic Falls. This week's episode of The Vampire Diaries is sure to be explosive with Klaus returning to town, but Katherine and Damon are also up to something.

In this clip from "The Reckoning," Damon tries to figure out what Katherine's big plans are, and he finds out.

'The Vampire Diaries' Video Preview: Is Elena Switching Salvatores?

Elena finally came face-to-face with Stefan on the last episode of The Vampire Diaries, but he told her to go home and give up on him. In this week's episode, "Disturbing Behavior," Elena is back in Mystic Falls and left to deal with the ramifications of meeting Stefan.

Executive producer Julie Plec explains what goes on in this week's episode, most notably Caroline's request for Elena to define her relationship with Damon.

'The Vampire Diaries' Recap: Ghosts of Girlfriends Past

Ex-girlfriends are bad news. That's true in real life and it's true on The Vampire Diaries. This week Katherine and Rebekah cause trouble for Stefan while Anna causes problems for Jeremy.Oh yeah, and Alaric dies again.

'The Vampire Diaries': Is Alaric's Ring Losing Its Mojo?

Despite being one of the few human characters on The Vampire Diaries, Alaric Saltzman has a lot of lives. The vampire hunting history teacher has been killed three times so far, but each time the magical Gilbert ring he wears has saved him.

In the latest episode, "Disturbing Behavior," Alaric was killed once again, this time by Damon, and while the ring did bring him back to life, it took a little bit longer than usual. Is this an omen that the ring is losing its magical immortality power?

I suspect it is, mostly because The Vampire Diaries has relied a little too heavily on magic jewelry. The show has day-walking rings for vampires (which can be mass-produced by Bonnie whenever she wants to do it), Rebecca's necklace from the Original Witch, currently in the possession of Katherine, and the Gilbert rings.

Trying to keep track of who has what and which piece does what for who is getting a little hard. So to help you out, here's a brief chronology of the two Gilbert rings. The journey starts when Gilbert brothers John and Grayson (aka Elena's father) were each given one.

John's Ring

-John gave his ring to Isobel when she left after giving birth to their child, Elena.
-Isobel gave the ring to her husband, Alaric.
-Alaric came to Mystic Falls with the ring and was staked by Damon in season 1, but came back to life.
-In season 2, Alaric was killed once again, this time by a werewolf, but he was still wearing the ring and came back.
-John blackmailed Alaric into giving him the ring so John wouldn't tell Jenna about the vampires.
-Isobel tossed John down the stairs as a distraction to kidnap Elena, but he was wearing the ring and came back.
-John gave Elena the ring for her children before he sacrificed himself.
-Elena gave the ring back to Alaric.
-Damon killed Alaric so he could go back and try to kill Bill Forbes.

Grayson's Ring

-After Grayson died in a car accident, John took his ring.
-John was thrown off a balcony by Damon in season 1, but lived thanks to the ring.
-John gave his ring to Jeremy before leaving town.
-Damon snapped Jeremy's neck, but he was wearing the ring and came back.

There seem to be two reasons why Alaric took longer than normal to come back to life. First, the ring may have a limited number of resurrections. Alaric's ring has already been used four times, and it's likely that it was used long before that as well since the rings were originally made by Emily Bennett in the 1860s.

The second explanation is that there are a limited number of resurrections per person. Alaric has died and come back three times, but perhaps each time you die it becomes harder to bring you back. Like a cat, maybe Alaric only gets nine lives, and he's already used up one-third of them.

Whatever the explanation, The Vampire Diaries doesn't do anything by accident, and the fact that Alaric took a long time to come back to life most likely foreshadows a new chapter in his story. Since Elena's necklace is now revealed to be more powerful than we first thought, it seems logical that the Gilbert rings might also play a role in the future.
